An ELTABB staffroom is an more informal event hosted by an ELTABB member on an issue of interest to them. This one will be hosted by Kath Robinson, a teacher working with business people in Berlin (and the rest of Germany) who want to improve their spoken English.
—————————————————————————————————————-
Since working in Berlin, I’ve come across so many learners whose fear of making mistakes when speaking English is either
1) drastically reducing their ability to speak English due to the extreme pressure they put on themselves
or
2) entirely stopping them using the English they have as they just sit there in silence desperately hoping they don’t have to speak.
In this relaxed ‘staffroom’ session, we will share our experiences working with these types of learners and any resources or classroom activities we use to help them get over this fear.
Please note this is NOT a workshop, but a staffroom. This means it is more of a group discussion rather than one person imparting knowledge. I will chair the session and start by talking about my experiences and share my ideas and favourite resources on this topic (20-30 minutes). The rest of the time the floor will be open for other people to share what they do with these type of students or ask for help/ideas. If time we will then look at some example students and brainstorm what we could do to help them.
The session is suitable for both those who are experienced in this topic and have lots they want to share on this topic and also those with no prior knowledge but are interested in learning about it.
As it looks like the group will be small, I will reserve a table at my favourite local. Inside or outside depending on the weather. Please RSVP so I know what size table to reserve.
Location: Urbayn, Glasbläserallee 25, 10245, Berlin
Eltabb members: please RSVP on the NING.
Non-members (no cost): please send an email to events@eltabb.com
