The most important ELTABB event of the year is here, and we’re going hybrid! Members will be able to join online and in-person.
It’s a great pleasure to announce that Ian McMaster will be giving a talk to kick off the event.
A third of a century in ELT and none the wiser?
Abstract
The idea that “the more I learn, the less I know” has been around since the time of Plato and Socrates. Online, it is attributed to people as varied as Albert Einstein and Tony Bennett.
Many language students and teachers have also experienced the feeling that as they learn more, they become increasingly aware of how little they know.
In this plenary, Ian will look back on a third of a century of working in ELT, discuss the development of his knowledge and ignorance, and share thoughts on where the industry is going. On a more practical level, he’ll present a communication activity that you can use on Monday morning (or on any other day of the week if you prefer).
