A DIY-in-person Workshop: Zines as a student-centered approach in ELT with Sol Tovar | Sat Dec 5th 10am-1pm ✨with holiday networking after✨

We are excited to announce that after being postponed, we have finally found a date for our special workshop! Join us for an engaging hands-on session on how creative zines can also serve as academically rigorous tools in language teaching. Afterward, stay for a 1-hour holiday networking event full of holiday spirit to connect with fellow educators.

Schedule:
  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Zine-Making Workshop

  • 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Holiday Networking Event

Note: Mariana may or may not bake for the event! Feel free to bring something small to share and spread the holiday spirit, though it’s strictly optional.

About the Workshop:

Zines integrate writing, image-making, collage, and design into a flexible format that allows students to engage critically and creatively with language. In this workshop, we will explore ways to apply zine methodologies in the classroom before moving into a hands-on zine-making session. These methods are versatile, allowing educators across educational levels and settings to integrate zines into their teaching. All basic materials will be provided for the session, but participants are warmly encouraged to bring any arts and crafts supplies (magazine clippings, papers, markers, etc.) they would like to use to make their zines unique.
